It is situated on and is named after the Des Plaines River, which runs through the city just east of its downtown area. Des Plaines is only 25 minutes from Chicago and is also easily accessible via multiple highways including Route 53, 290, and I90. There is also a Metra train station to utilize for working in the city or playing in the city. Des Plaines hosts an annual "Taste of Des Plaines".
